What if I have a Caesarean birth?
Most hospitals in the area allow both the father/partner and doula to accompany the birthing mother into the operating room. The doula continues providing information, reassurance, and support throughout the birth. In an unplanned Caesarean, there are a lot of questions and emotions. A doula has the time, patience, and experience to help. After the birth of the baby, the father/partner often plans to accompany the baby to the nursery, leaving the mom lonely during this incredibly vulnerable time. A doula's presence can be really comforting. For breastfeeding mom, the doula helps establish breastfeeding after the birth, ideally while mom is still in the recovery room. |
